      I had two issues with my C40: the 1st one was my fault given the fact that the handle felt of my table and the plastic lid broke. The 2nd was the knob that was no longer held in place as the inner snap-in mechanism was broken.
      Both problems have been solved by the after sales department of BB coffee company and I received replacing parts free of charge within 2 days. I'm quite impressed by and am happy having bought a highend product of a company focused on customer satisfaction. My thanks go out again to Natalie.

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +3

      Hi there Wouter! Glad it helped! We actually stopped including the rubber O-rings in our grinders back in 2017. Whilst practical for holding the bottom washer in place during disassembly, it is actually unnecessary for the grinder's function. We decided it was too fiddly and removed it. If you would like to include it, simply add it to the bottom of the axle after the bottom washer is in place, and then push the cone (with spring) into place, and close the burrs using the grind adjustment dial :). Hope that helps!

    lol i am using the comandante c40 everyday for 3 years and never cleaned it, it still works fine .. am cleaning it now for the first time,, and the bearing was stuk with the washer, from the raised material on the shaft. fixed it after seeing the other video about it. rubbed it with scotch brite and the bearing with washer came off. it was filled with a lot of gunk and coffee dust, a lot of black /dust stuff around the bearing and on the shaft. looked like some bearing grease mixed with coffee dust or metals particles mixing with coffee dust. Still works like a charm though. Will be cleaning it more often now :D

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  Год назад

      Hi there Rene,
      Glad you could get it back to full fitness despite 3 years without cleaning ;). We build them to handle life as a reliable tool, after all!
      Another great thing about the Nitro Blade steel: it is highly inert and has such a polished surface that it really doesn't take on any flavour. Cleaning the grinder's internals is good for smooth use long-term (as you've demonstrated), but the best thing to clean regularly for coffee flavour is the grounds catcher on the bottom of the grinder. Disassembling the grinder once every 2-4 weeks should be plenty :).
      Thanks for your support!

    I was happy to find that the taste of the Kopi Luwak was completely different from what it had been two days ago when I immediately tried to grind and drink it.
    Anti-static: Fill a cup with water. Dip a teaspoon into the water in the cup. Stir the prepared beans with a spoon that still has a drop of water on it.Wipe the inside of the Bean Jar lightly with a slightly damp paper towel. Now it's ready to go!

    In comandante website f.a.q stated that there are 6 possibilities (hexagonal axle shaft) with the burr that could give better alignment.. i just worried after i disassemble the burr from the axle, i wasn't put it back in its optimum place?

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад

      The FAQs are only talking about 'alignment' when not grinding. The flexibility of the floating cone design means that DURING grinding the forces are spread and the burr cone sits in the optimum position - our laboratory testing during development of our burrs and our long-term testing since then prove that the results are excellent :). You have nothing to worry about! Enjoy your coffee :).

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +3

      Hi there Lee! The red ring would be rolled onto the axle after the bottom washer and before you reinsert the burr cone. However, you don't really need it - it's up to you! We stopped including it in 2017 after deciding it was more hindrance than help for regular cleaning. The original idea was to avoid the bottom washer slipping out during disassembly, but we decided it was fiddly to remove and then reassemble after cleaning and caused more work than necessary. If you prefer it, you can keep it, but your grinder doesn't need it either :). Hope that helps!

    OMG, that last scene, I wonder how many takes it took to get that perfectly
    great instructions, I was wondering, would you recommend cleaning the main body with coffee grind tablets or rinsing it with water at all?

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +26

      Only one take ;) - if you know where to hold the glass then it's easy :D...
      As for tablets/water. With light-medium roasts the coffee oils are generally not a problem. For medium-darker roasts it might be more necessary to use tablets/similar to remove the oils a bit, and then use a brush to clear the grinder of the tablet dust. Water wouldn't harm the insides of the grinder, so long as the bearings weren't soaking in water, but I would rather not use water because it's then necessary to let the grinder dry out, and it might not be good for the wood on the outside.
      I personally consider it more important to keep the glass clean so the ground coffee isn't mixed with stale coffee grounds. This is easy with water/a dishwasher, and you can use the second glass that comes with the grinder whilst the first one is being washed/drying. Brushing the body and burrs clean is enough for me to keep the grinder running smoothly and my coffee tasting great :).
      Happy grinding!
      Joe

      Sorry to hear about the washer!
      I don’t think it will cause you any problems in the meantime :).
      I assume it was probably the bottom washer that you lost?
      In any case, if you only have one washer, it’s better to use it at the top, between the axle and the top bearing. That way, you can at least find click zero :).

You can use it to occasionally polish and gently lubricate the axle, and it's particularly great for lubricating the join between the crank and your oak knob, in case that starts squeaking! Should the axle be oiled in places it contacts with bearing? Last time I disassembled the grinder I got greasy finger from the oil on the axle.

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  3 года назад +1

      Hi there Paweł! Thanks for your support :). This location doesn't really need regular lubrication, although it can help for easy dis-/reassembly :). If the oil there wasn't oil you put there, it could just be a little bit of grease coming out of the cartridge bearings. This isn't anything to worry about at all :). No oil would come into contact with your coffee beans, and it would only help to keep that location nicely lubricated anyway - never a bad thing for moving metal parts!

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +3

      Hello there! If the axle is sticking a little when you're removing it, it might be due to coffee dust. Once you remove the burr cone and the lower washer, don't be afraid to give the axle a gentle tap with a hammer to get it going through and out of the grinder :). If it also sticks coming out of the other end, it may take the top ball bearing cartridge with it, but this isn't a problem - a tight fit between axle and bearing cartridge is of course good for centricity :). Perhaps give the axle and axle shaft a good clean with the help of compressed air, and try lubricating it lightly with a natural mineral oil :). If you have further problems, you can always reach out to our Support Team via support@comandante-grinder.com :)! Thanks for your support!

I’m worried about it getting into the chamber as I start grinding, and it forces me to store the grinder with the handle in place as I take it with me to work. Is it possible to use the Ross Droplet Technique (spraying the beans to reduce statics) before grinding with a comandante grinder or will it cause damage to the burrs (because you said not to put water on the burrs)? Thanks in advance for the answer

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  Год назад +1

      Hello there! Thanks for your comment :).
      That's perhaps a slight misunderstanding or not totally clear in our video, because water is absolutely no problem for the Nitro Blade burr. It is a very special stainless steel that is even saltwater stainless! So feel free to use RDT with no worries :).
      Because the Nitro Blade steel is chemically highly inert, it avoids premature oxidation of your coffee beans and helps preserve complex flavour and sensory characteristics. It also means that it doesn't take on any flavour from coffees and therefore doesn't impart those flavours on the next one.
      Because of this, the burr doesn't really need to be cleaned too often, unless one is using more oily coffees. Then you can wash the burr or use grinder cleaning products to remove stale coffee oils that get too obvious.
      I like to wash my glass each time because every grinder has two glasses and I can switch between the two.
      But I only brush my burr because then I don't need to worry about drying it out before grinding my next dose of coffee :).
      I hope that helps!
      Best,
      Joe

    Looks pretty solid, the only detail I am not much of a fan of is the plastic lid. Would very much prefer stainless steel or, if that's not doable, rubber. But still this grinder goes onto "might buy" list.

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +8

      Thanks for your support :). The plastic lid is made out of the same special Tritan as the chassis - very robust and stable and food-safe. It is practical to work with in production terms, reduces the weight of the crank, and allows us to match the appearance of the glass at the bottom - a nice touch we think :). Hope that helps explain our reasoning!

    Hi there, I realized smt in every video i ve watched about comandante people grind while the grinder not touching the surface. Is that how its supposed to be? Coz i always grind it while the grinder is actually placed on the table. Is it wrong?

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад

      Hi there! Thanks for your support!
      Nothing wrong with grinding on the table really, if that's how you find it easier :). I think most people would prefer to keep it in the air, at about chest height, which is actually really ergonomic :). (It's best to hold the wooden body of the grinder, rather than the bottom where the glass is). If anything, this avoids scratching your work-surface with the bottom of the glass :D...
      One advantage of grinding on the table is that it keeps the grinder perfectly vertical, which is good for a consistent grind!

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  2 года назад

      Hello there! Using water isn't really a problem because we only use stainless steel, but it would be necessary to dry your grinder thoroughly, so to be honest it's not something we do very often or at all.
      A damp cloth to wipe the insides works well, but if you are always dosing and grinding your beans immediately, there's not really anything to worry about in terms of flavour :). It's most important to clean your burr and your Bean Jar, where your ground coffee lands.

    I recently dissembled my new grinder for cleaning but when I put it back together, the dial couldn't turn though it hasn't reached click zero yet. I had to re-do it several times to make it work. Sometimes I could get it right, other times, I noticed the grinder doesn't turn smoothly at click One (1 click away from Click Zero). Is it because of an alignment problem? When I dissembled it the very first time, I recalled the shaft got stuck and I used slightly more force and ended up removing the blue ring along with it. Did I damage it? Have I damaged it by continuing to use it when it wasn't assembled properly? Please help - thanks

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +1

      Hello there Janice! I wonder if you were missing the top washer when you reassembled it? If the top washer isn't inserted *before* the axle, then the axle sits lower and it's not possible to close the burr to click zero.
      At fine settings it is very normal for there to be contact of the burrs. Your grinder has no alignment problem :).
      Our burr cone in the middle has been built as a “floating cone”. Unlike some other grinders, the cone has flexibility on the axle. Without load (when the grinder is empty) you are able to move the cone on the axle. As soon as you grind coffee, the cone follows the centricity of the axle and the burr ring, and you can trust your C40 grinder to provide you with a wonderfully even grind distribution :).
      Your grinder is very robust and will not be damaged by the normal disassembly that you've described :). The blue bearings are not fixed so they can come out of place, but that's ok. When you correctly reassemble the grinder again, they will be held in the correct position :).
      Best regards from Comandante HQ and thanks for your support!

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  4 года назад +1

      Hello there! This can happen if the fitting between axle and bearing are particularly tight - especially if there is a little coffee dust between them, and if the axle is pulled out at a very slight angle. But it's not an issue. (We don't glue the bearings in place, they are simply pushed into position and then held there perfectly when the grinder is assembled).
      Perhaps you'd like to check that the axle and the axle shaft are clear of coffee dust (compressed air or a thin brush like you'd use for tubes or straws can help!), give the axle a little rub with some abrasive fleece and/or very slightly lubricate the axle with some natural mineral oil. The important thing is just not to use too much force when reinserting the axle, and insert it nice and straight :). I hope that helps! Yes, this is normal. Coffee oils will still maintain contact with surfaces if just brushed clean.
      Firstly, don't worry about this affecting the taste of your coffee, since if you're single dosing, the beans will only be in the chamber for a short amount of time. More important is to keep the Bean Jar on the bottom of the grinder clean and to brush the burr exit clear of dust - you can switch between the two glasses and clean them between uses :).
      If you want to try and remove the aroma, then perhaps you might want to try grinding some grinder cleaning tablets before following the steps in this video, or using kitchen paper / cloths to clean and wipe the internal surfaces. You can even use a small amount of a natural / food safe cleaning agent and wipe it all clean -- no risk to the components in the grinder (all stainless steel and food safe polymer - no aluminium or cheap plastics ;).)
      Thanks for your support!

      @@ComandanteGrinder Thanks, I don't need to clean the aroma but I had a paranoia of not cleaning it properly and rust the burr or having some rotten coffee in it. Now I am having a paranoia of not drying the body properly with tissue that I cleaned up with a clean and moist toothbrush that have amount of water that shouldn't matter.
      Anyways, the result of the coffee was always drinkable no matter how much I failed the brewing. I am loving this product so far.

      Hi there! How regularly you clean is absolutely just down to personal preference - it's your grinder and it's not going to break due to lack of cleaning, after all! But it's like every tool you might own, regular cleaning and maintenance helps it to function more smoothly :). The Nitro Blade burr is actually aroma neutral so for cup quality the most important thing is actually just to use a clean Bean Jar on the bottom of the grinder and brush the burr exit between uses. I tend to clean my grinder about once a week, but always use a clean Bean Jar, for example :).
      In any case, it only takes a couple of minutes and is very satisfying!

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  3 года назад +1

      Hey there! Not sure this is the answer you were hoping for, but we would always recommend you try it out and see what works best for you :)... That way you can decide if you A) notice a marked difference and b) whether any difference is enough to motivate you to clean your grinder between each use.
      Good to know: your Nitro Blade burr set is made with a special steel, and thanks to the finishing touches we make to every burr, the surface is highly inert and aroma neutral. Often, it's enough to purge (grind and discard) 2-3 beans of the new coffee to 'clean' the burr. I like to use a clean Bean Jar every time to avoid any 'contamination' of stale coffee, which is easy thanks to there being two Bean Jars with every grinder :).
      Hope that helps!
      Best,
      Joe

      Hi there Martin, it depends a bit on how much you're using your grinder. We like to do a disassembly 2-4 times a month to be sure that everything will run smoothly and old coffee dust won't build up too much. More important for the cup quality would be to regularly clean the bean jar you're using on the grinder - you can swap between the clear and the dark glass after each use whilst you clean the other, for example :).

      To be honest with you, I’ve never tried that before, because I’ve never felt the need to ;). The risk would be damaging the wood and also the ball bearings. The steel itself wouldn’t have any issues. If you want to try it, it’s at your own risk.
      Otherwise, I like to just use a damp cloth on the inside (and then allow everything to dry) if I really want to deep clean :)…

    Hallo Comandante Team
    Ich habe bei meiner MK4 festgestellt müssen dass die Feder den Mahlkegel nicht 100% mittig in der Fassung arretiert.
    (Die Feder ist Gefühl zu sehr unter Spannung in der Führung des Mahlkegels und Kippt, steht schräg)
    Dadurch fängt die Mühle sehr schnell an zu schleifen und das Mahlgut fällt auch nicht richtig homogen aus.
    Hat sonst noch jemand diese Erfahrung gemacht?
    Oder liegt hier vielleicht sogar ein Fehler in der Feder vor ?
    MfG.

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  Год назад +1

      Guten Tag Maurice und danke für die Unterstützung!
      Gute Nachricht: was du beschreibst klingt total normal :).
      Die Konstruktion haben wir so ausgelegt, dass der Konus / Kegel „schwimmend“ montiert wird. Das heißt, dass er im unbelasteten Zustand in Bezug auf die Längsachse hin und her bewegt werden kann und elastisch auf der Achse sitzt. Wir haben diese Konstruktion gewählt, weil sie einige wertvolle Vorteile für Mahlergebnis und Bedienung bringt. Unsere Tests im Labor beweisen das auch.
      Im leeren Zustand, also wenn die Mühle nicht arbeitet, kann sich der Konus wegen seiner elastischen Montage etwas auf die eine oder andere Seite legen. Man muss sich also keine Sorgen machen - das was man sieht ist kein Fehler. Man kann den Konus im leeren Zustand leicht hin und her bewegen. Die Zentrizität der Achsenführung wird dadurch nicht tangiert. Beim eigentlichen Mahlvorgang, also unter Last, richtet sich der Konus aus und arbeitet perfekt.
      Die Befürchtung, dass durch diese elastische Konus-Aufhängung das Mahlverhalten oder die Partikelverteilung ungünstig beeinflusst wird, ist wirklich unbegründet. Im Gegenteil, das was die Comandante ausmacht, ist unter anderem gerade diese elastische Konstruktion.
      Viele Grüße aus Unterhaching,
      Joe

    • @ComandanteGrinder
      @ComandanteGrinder  Год назад +1

      Ah sorry, und zum Mahlgut:
      Röstkaffee ist sehr zerbrechlich und splittert nie perfekt homogenen auseinander. Eine Verteilung der Partikelgröße ist also völlig normal: jedes Brechen erzeugt etwas Feinstaub und gröbere Stücke können auch (weil nicht rund) durch den Spalt im Mahlwerk fallen. Das heißt: wenn ich mit meiner C40 Mühle z.B. 750µm als Zielgröße habe, wird die Mehrheit der Partikeln sehr nah dran liegen, aber ich werde auch viele Partikeln in anderen Größen haben.
      Zu viele von diesen anderen Partikeln könnte die Extraktion negativ beeinflüssen. Aber die *richtige* Menge tragen zu einem tollen, komplexen Geschmack in der Tasse bei. Eine *exzellente* Partikelverteilung - wie beim Nitro Blade Mahlwerk - ist wie beim Musik Hören, mit einem gut-eingestellten Equalizer.
      Fazit: man kann das Nitro Blade Mahlwerk zu 100% vertrauen. Es gilt: Kaffee machen, abschmecken, adjustieren, und wiederholen, bis man seine *eigene* Lieblingseinstellung für den Kaffee/die Brühmethode gefunden hat :).

      Hello there Remilia and thanks for your message :).
      Comandante is a company that doesn't believe in unnecessary waste. Our goal is to produce products of very high quality that are robust and last a long time. This planet doesn't need another product that needs replacing regularly, but rather products that are made responsibly and carefully. That's why we build our grinders out of strong, safe materials. Since many coffee enthusiasts already own cleaning brushes, we decided to offer brushes separately only, since that also helps to avoid waste. (You can find our brushes made of 100% natural wood and natural hair via many of our global partners - drop us an email to info@comandante-grinder.com if you'd like to find out more :).)
      Please be aware that when a company prices a product, nothing comes for free. We include the bare minimum to again avoid waste, but also keep the price as accessible as possible. You can rest assured that the money you invest in a Comandante product is going towards the advanced grinding technology and performance that you want to have in your hands, and will be more than worth your money in the long-term, thanks to years and years of use :).
      Best regards from Munich!
